The Urban League of the Central Carolinas presented its Community Empowerment Award to an individual and/or organization who has proven through their deeds to exemplify the principles for which the Urban League Movement stands. They must have helped to build bridges between the establishment and the disenfranchised, which create opportunities for minorities and all underserved populations where inequities exist.

The ULCC and its Board of Directors selected as the 2021 Community Empowerment Award recipient! The board celebrates the leadership of Jason Terrell as the Executive Director, mentor and role model at Profound Gentlemen more than qualifies you to receive this award, and our gratitude.

The Community Empowerment award is a part of the Annual Whitney M. Young, Jr. (WMY) Gala, where the community join us our guest of honor. This year’s theme for the Urban League movement was Urban League Fights for You: Education, Wealth & Justice.

The WMY Gala is our major fundraiser, which increases the Urban League’s ability to enhance programs and serve more clients. The mission is to equip African Americans and all underserved Charlotte area residents with the tools to achieve social and economic equality. The Urban League of the Central Carolinas stands proudly among the 90+ affiliates of the National Urban League.

The Community Empowerment Award gala was held virtually on Wednesday, June 9, 2021, 5:00PM. We salute Jason Terrell and Profound Gentlemen for the impactful work happening in our communities, schools and through the continued work of supporting male educators and boys of color in public schools.
